Hiroto Tabata & Associates, Architects is an award-winning design studio based in Shonan (JAPAN).

Founded in 2018 by Hiroto Tabata, the studio always prioritises the importance of atmosphere which is achieved by the careful foresight and planning. Our studio is determined to meet the needs and requests of the clients, all while focusing on aesthetics and functionality.

For us, making a clear concept by knitting memories between a site and people is crucial. Our hands-on and academic style of architecture includes researching various techniques, carrying out case studies, as well as testing the visual and functional parts of materials and verifying design concepts with scale models.

When you visit a place and If  there is something which makes you feel comfortable, there must be  details composed by nature or time. Or it  might had been considered by someone.

We believe that good atmosphere can not be achieved without the emphasis on details, big and small. Our task is to deliver a design which can transcend time by closely examining culture, history and its people.   Regardless of the scale of projects, our design emerges from a clear concept and vast research which is followed by the detailed design process. More importantly, the key to any successful project lies in a conversation with team members, clients and all other professionals involved.  In order to have "atmosphere", the process mentioned above is a must. We are passionate about bringing rich and quality moments to your daily life.

Environment and Sustainability

For us, prioritising passive environmental design is a key to achieving a successful design which is often drawn from local traditions in construction and vernacular architecture.

Today,  there is an increasing number of movements to sustain / transform existing buildings. However, since earthquakes frequently occur in Japan, the preferred solution remains razing and rebuilding over preserving building sites. Where possible, all buildings should be given the opportunity for preservation, not only traditional Japanese houses.

We consider that newly built buildings should also represent the site of its history and people.

Craftsmanship

We are passionate about designing things through close observation of materials and their character and antiquity. Any design should stand the test of time and harmonise with the past and, of course, the future. The design process will never be possible without a craftsman's effort and their knowledge.
